MTB Tour Around Mount Toubkal — Beyond the Azgour Plateaux
Starting beyond the Azgour Plateaux, you will mount your bikes for a stunning mountain biking tour around Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa.
Throughout this journey, you will explore the northern slopes of the western High Atlas, especially around the Amizmiz area, and ride across the scenic landscapes of the Toubkal National Park.
The tour offers an immersion in the beauty of traditional Berber villages, lush valleys, and dramatic canyons, giving you a unique insight into the daily life of Berber families. It’s a chance to witness how the Berber culture has flourished in the heart of the High Atlas Mountains, shaped by nature and tradition.
- Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Azgour Plateaux – Amizmiz Region
Morning transfer from Marrakech to the Azgour Plateaux.
Bike setup and warm-up ride across the plateaux with views of the High Atlas.
Start biking through forests, valleys, and isolated Berber villages in the Amizmiz region.
Lunch en route in a local village.
Continue exploring scenic single tracks and dirt roads.
Overnight in a traditional Berber guesthouse in the Amizmiz area.
Day 2: Amizmiz – Tassa Ouirgane – Ouirgane
Ride from Amizmiz to Tassa Ouirgane, a charming valley village.
Biking along mule paths, ridges, and lush valleys.
Lunch with a local family.
Afternoon descent to Ouirgane, near the edge of Toubkal National Park.
Overnight in a guesthouse or ecolodge in Ouirgane.
Day 3: Ouirgane – Tinzert – Azzaden Valley
Morning ascent towards the village of Tinzert.
Enter the Azzaden Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in the High Atlas.
Ride through walnut groves, red-earth villages, and terraced fields.
Lunch in a Berber house.
Overnight stay in a guesthouse in the Azzaden Valley.
Day 4: Azzaden Valley – Tizi Oussem – Tizi n’Tacht – Imlil
Ascend to Tizi Oussem village, then climb to Tizi n’Tacht Pass (2100m).
Panoramic views of the valleys below and the Toubkal Massif.
Long descent to the Imlil Valley, the heart of Toubkal region.
Lunch en route.
Overnight in a guesthouse in Imlil, known as the Moroccan Chamonix.
Day 5: Imlil – Tizi n’Tamatert – Imnan Valley – Tinghrine
Ride up to Tizi n’Tamatert Pass (2300m).
Enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Toubkal (4167m).
Descend into the Imnan Valley, passing villages like Tinghrine and Ait Souka.
Optional tea break in a Berber home.
Overnight in a local guesthouse in the Imnan Valley or nearby village.
Day 6: Tinghrine – Asni – Return to Marrakech
Final biking stage: descent towards Asni, a lively village with a weekly market.
Ride through orchards, pine forests, and small hamlets.
Lunch stop along the way.
End the ride in Asni, where the vehicle will pick you up.
Transfer back to Marrakech in the afternoon.
